HD Kumaraswamy urges Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to start a high-speed Vande Bharat Express connecting Bengaluru with coastal Karnataka and Goa via Mangaluru.

Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy has written to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking the launch of a Vande Bharat Express service from Bengaluru to Goa’s Madgaon via Mangaluru. The proposal aims to strengthen high-speed rail connectivity between Karnataka’s capital, the coastal belt, and Goa.

In his letter, Kumaraswamy pointed out that railway line electrification along the Karnataka-Goa corridor has already been completed successfully. With the infrastructure now ready, he said the route is well suited for introducing the Vande Bharat Express.

He highlighted the long-standing public demand for a faster rail link between Bengaluru, the Karnataka coast, and Goa. According to him, people have been eagerly waiting for a modern, high-speed train that can cut travel time and improve comfort on this busy corridor.

The proposed route includes Bengaluru, Hassan, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, Karwar, and Madgaon. Kumaraswamy noted that this corridor serves a diverse passenger base, including tourists, pilgrims, students, and working professionals, making it one of the most important railway routes in the region.

He also stressed that improved rail connectivity would link the IT hub of Bengaluru with major commercial ports, popular coastal tourist destinations in Karnataka, and Goa. This, he said, would significantly boost tourism, regional trade, and overall economic activity.

Kumaraswamy requested the Railway Minister to direct South Western Railway officials to study the feasibility of the proposed Vande Bharat service and take appropriate action. He added that launching the train would meet passenger expectations, enhance inter-state connectivity, and support the Centre’s vision of building an efficient, modern railway network.
