Bengaluru Metro awards contract for Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for Phase 2A and 2B corridors

In a major leap forward for Bengaluru's metro expansion, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has awarded the contract for the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for the Phase 2A and 2B corridors. This contract, given to a leading international firm, is a critical step in the ongoing development of the city's metro infrastructure.

The Phase 2A corridor, stretching from Silk Board to KR Puram, and Phase 2B, connecting KR Puram to the Kempegowda International Airport, are key projects aimed at enhancing Bengaluru's public transportation system. These extensions are set to alleviate traffic congestion, offer quicker travel alternatives, and contribute to reduced air pollution.

AFC system

The AFC system will introduce a contactless fare collection process, simplifying ticketing and enhancing the overall passenger experience. With this system, commuters can expect faster, more efficient service, alongside smoother transitions between different modes of transport.

BMRCL plans to complete the AFC system's installation in sync with the ongoing development of the Phase 2A and 2B corridors.
