Karnataka govt reviewing Bengaluru’s mobility plan; metro link to Doddaballapura under study, pending CMP revision and technical evaluation
The Karnataka government has begun reviewing Bengaluru’s Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), raising hopes for metro connectivity to Doddaballapura. Though the current blueprint does not include this route, the revision process could pave the way for extending services to the fast-developing northern corridor.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda confirmed that Metro Phases 3 and 3A have already been sanctioned. However, he clarified that linking Doddaballapura—located about 40 kilometers from Bengaluru—will depend on the outcome of the CMP review. The existing plan, prepared in 2020, excluded this stretch, but rapid growth along the Yelahanka–Rajanukunte–Doddaballapura belt has intensified calls for improved public transport.
Currently, construction is underway on Metro Phases 2A and 2B, which are designed to connect Bengaluru with Kempegowda International Airport by 2027. These projects are expected to significantly ease travel for commuters and boost regional accessibility.

Officials note that any extension towards Doddaballapura will require detailed technical and financial evaluations once the revised CMP is finalized. Urban planners argue that metro connectivity could accelerate industrial and residential development in the area, while reducing dependence on road transport.
For now, residents and stakeholders await the government’s decision, which could determine whether Doddaballapura secures a place in Bengaluru’s expanding metro network.
