Tejasvi Surya announces Railway Ministry’s approval for a long-pending superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai, fulfilling a demand dating back three decades.

Bengaluru and Mumbai, two of India’s fastest-growing metros, are finally getting a new superfast train after a 30-year demand. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya announced that the Railway Ministry has approved the long-awaited service, calling it a “historic step” for lakhs of commuters.

Until now, the two cities were connected by just one daily superfast train, the Udyan Express, which takes over 24 hours to complete the journey. Despite decades of rapid growth in both urban hubs, rail connectivity between them remained stagnant.

Highlighting the pressing need, Surya pointed out that in the last year alone, more than 26 lakh people traveled between Bengaluru and Mumbai by air. With limited rail options, citizens were forced to rely on expensive flights.

The upcoming service, Surya said, will provide affordable, faster travel for lakhs of passengers, making the route more accessible and easing the burden on existing transport. He added that this approval marks the fulfillment of a dream that had been left unattended for three decades.
