Bengaluru-Mumbai rail link strengthened: New bi-weekly train approved between SMVT and LTT

Railway Board has cleared a bi-weekly train between SMVT Bengaluru and Mumbai’s LTT. The 24-hour journey will run twice a week in both directions, halt at major stations and operate with 17 LHB coaches.

24-hour journey to connect Karnataka and Maharashtra with twice-a-week service and multiple key halts

Long-distance rail connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra is set to improve with the Railway Board approving a new bi-weekly train service between SMVT Bengaluru and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Mumbai. The move is expected to benefit passengers travelling frequently between the two major states.

As per the approved schedule, the journey will take around 24 hours to cover the distance. The train, numbered 16553, will depart from SMVT Bengaluru at 8.35 pm and reach LTT Mumbai at 8.40 pm the following day.

On the return journey, the train will leave LTT at 11.15 pm and arrive at SMVT Bengaluru at 10.30 pm the next day, ensuring overnight travel convenience for passengers.

Departures from SMVT Bengaluru are scheduled on Saturdays and Tuesdays, while the return services from Mumbai LTT will operate on Sundays and Wednesdays.

The train will halt at several important stations, providing connectivity to key cities and towns. These include Tumakuru, Davangere, Hubballi, Dharwad, Belagavi, Miraj, Sangli, Karad, Satara, Lonand, Pune, Lonavala, Karjat, Kalyan and Thane.

The service will operate with 17 modern LHB coaches, offering improved safety and passenger comfort.

With this approval, rail passengers can expect better travel options between Bengaluru and Mumbai, especially for long-distance journeys linking major commercial and cultural hubs.
