Bengaluru murder case lapse: Jnanabharathi police inspector suspended for negligence

Inspector Ravi Kumar of Jnanabharathi Police Station has been placed under suspension for alleged dereliction of duty in handling a murder case registered four months ago.

A police inspector attached to Jnanabharathi Police Station in Bengaluru has been suspended following allegations of serious lapses in the investigation of a murder case. Inspector Ravi Kumar has been placed under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty after it was found that the case was not handled as per procedure.

The murder case in question was reported around four months ago. However, instead of promptly registering a First Information Report (FIR), the inspector allegedly showed negligence at the initial stage. The matter was first cited as falling under the jurisdiction of Tavarekere Police Station, and no FIR was registered immediately.

Subsequently, Tavarekere Police transferred the case back, stating that the incident actually came under the jurisdiction of Jnanabharathi Police Station. Even after the case was officially transferred, the investigation reportedly did not progress in a proper and timely manner.

Based on these lapses, authorities concluded that there was a clear failure to perform official duties responsibly. The suspension order states that the inspector failed to ensure proper registration and investigation of a serious offence, leading to administrative action.

The suspension order has been issued by the Police Commissioner, Seemanth Kumar Singh, citing negligence and failure to follow standard investigative procedures in a sensitive criminal case. The action comes amid increased scrutiny of police accountability in handling serious crimes.
