Purple Line has largest share of daily metro commuters

The Purple Line accounted for the largest share with 4,51,816 passengers, followed by the Green Line with 2,91,677 commuters. The newly introduced Yellow Line saw 52,215 riders on its first day of commercial service. Interchange stations handled 2,52,323 passenger movements, reflecting strong connectivity across the network.

The previous ridership record of 9,66,732 was set on June 4 during citywide celebrations for the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win, when only the Purple and Green lines were in operation. With the Yellow Line’s addition, the metro network has expanded from 76.95 km to 96 km.

Part of Phase 2 of the metro project, the 19.15-kilometre Yellow Line links RV Road to Bommasandra, passing through key commercial and IT hubs. Constructed at a cost of ₹7,160 crore, the corridor features 16 stations and had faced delays of over four years before completion.

The new line is expected to serve more than eight lakh daily commuters in South Bengaluru, reducing travel times and easing congestion on busy roadways. With the expanded network, BMRCL anticipates overall daily ridership could soon reach 12.5 lakh passengers.
