A newlywed Bengaluru couple joined their Hubballi wedding reception through a video call after nationwide IndiGo disruptions left them stranded over 1,000 km away in Bhubaneswar.
A newlywed couple from Bengaluru were forced to join their own wedding reception virtually after being stranded in Bhubaneswar due to IndiGo’s massive nationwide flight disruptions, according to reports. The couple, software engineers based in Bengaluru, had planned their reception for 3 December in Hubballi, but their travel plan collapsed when IndiGo’s operational crisis triggered widespread cancellations across India.

The couple, who married on 23 November in Bhubaneswar, had booked the Bhubaneswar-Bengaluru-Hubballi route. According to sources, their flight was delayed repeatedly from the morning of 2 December before being cancelled in the early hours. Several relatives travelling on connecting flights via Mumbai also faced multiple delays and cancellations.
With the reception venue at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi fully decorated and guests arriving from cities including Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Belagavi, Bagalkote and Davangere, the family decided to conduct the event online. A large screen was set up inside the hall, and the couple appeared virtually from Bhubaneswar, dressed in their reception attire, interacting with guests through a video call. The bride’s parents performed the rituals in person.
Sources indicate that the family was left with no alternative as more than 600 IndiGo flights were cancelled nationwide amid what aviation observers are calling India’s largest airline disruption triggered largely by crew shortages. The crisis has caused severe inconvenience to travellers across the country, many of whom have reported being stranded for long hours at airports.

According to reports, the family expressed deep concern over the situation and urged the Union government to intervene to prevent further distress to passengers. They highlighted that air travel is often chosen during emergencies and argued that the disruptions have created unavoidable hardships for common citizens.
The incident adds to the growing list of stories emerging as IndiGo’s operational crisis continues to disrupt travel plans nationwide. With the airline yet to fully stabilise operations, affected passengers across India continue to demand accountability and urgent corrective measures.
