Bengaluru North City Corporation begins a special ‘Tax Drive’ to recover unpaid property taxes and identify under-assessed properties; strict action planned against persistent defaulters.

Bengaluru North City Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar announced that the civic body has launched a month-long ‘Tax Drive’ aimed at recovering pending property tax dues and bringing unassessed properties under the tax network.

According to the Commissioner, the North City Corporation oversees 4,57,951 registered properties, including 3,36,989 residential, 15,949 non-residential, 23,214 mixed-use, and 81,799 vacant sites. All of these properties fall under the civic body’s tax jurisdiction.

For the ongoing financial year, the Corporation has set a revenue target of ₹1,242 crore, out of which ₹548 crore has been collected so far, while ₹694 crore remains outstanding. “We have begun issuing notices to major tax defaulters and are working to ensure that all dues are recovered at the earliest,” Kumar said.

He added that special recovery teams comprising officials from the Revenue Department have been formed to conduct field-level operations. “A total of 1,697 properties require reassessment, while 78,565 properties have pending arrears. Notices have already been issued to several non-residential property owners who have defaulted for years,” he stated.

Kumar emphasized that strict enforcement measures, including sealing of properties, would be taken against repeat offenders who fail to clear their dues despite repeated notices. The ongoing initiative also aims to identify and tax properties that were previously outside the Corporation’s tax network.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner directed officials to expedite the stormwater drain upgrade work near Kanteerava Stadium, which often faces severe waterlogging during monsoon. He noted that the retaining wall of the drain is being raised to prevent flooding, though the ongoing works have temporarily caused inconvenience to athletes and children using the facility.
