Bengaluru’s Peenya industrial hub, one of Asia’s largest manufacturing clusters, has sounded an alarm over worsening infrastructure that is crippling business operations. The Peenya Industrial Association, which represents thousands of enterprises, has flagged that not just Peenya but over 25 surrounding estates are grappling with pothole-ridden, damaged roads and inadequate connectivity.

Industry representatives warn that poor road conditions are leading to frequent damage of sensitive equipment and raw materials during transit, disrupting supply chains and delaying deliveries. These setbacks are eroding client confidence and reducing overall productivity, prompting some firms to consider shifting operations to neighbouring states such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, where infrastructure is viewed as more dependable.

Peenya alone hosts nearly 12,000 industries

Peenya alone hosts nearly 12,000 industries, employing over a million workers and contributing nearly 40 percent of export output, including high-value sectors like aerospace and defence. The Association has cautioned that neglect of the region’s infrastructure could have far-reaching consequences, from large-scale job losses and declining investment to shrinking revenues for Karnataka and damage to its reputation as a premier industrial destination.

In its appeal to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, the Association has sought urgent road repairs along with a long-term strategy to prevent recurring deterioration. Responding to the concerns, Shivakumar has instructed contractors to complete pothole-filling across Bengaluru by November and indicated that broader infrastructure upgrades will be taken up under the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s jurisdiction.
