Special enforcement drive launched from January 21 to curb wrong-side driving and ease traffic congestion across the city

Bengaluru Traffic Police have intensified enforcement against one-way traffic violations, booking a large number of offenders over the last four days as part of a focused special drive across the city.

According to official data, a total of 11,498 cases have been registered against motorists who violated one-way traffic rules. The special operation began on January 21, with traffic police teams deployed at key junctions, arterial roads, and known violation-prone stretches to strictly monitor wrong-side driving.

Police officials said the drive was initiated in response to repeated complaints from commuters and rising safety concerns caused by vehicles entering one-way roads from the wrong direction. Such violations not only disrupt traffic flow but also significantly increase the risk of accidents, especially during peak hours.

Under the ongoing operation, traffic personnel are closely monitoring movement on designated one-way roads and taking immediate action against violators. Challans are being issued on the spot, and repeat offenders are being warned of stricter penalties as per traffic regulations.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police stated that the objective of the drive is not just enforcement, but also to improve road discipline and ensure safer commuting for pedestrians, two-wheelers, and motorists alike. Officials emphasized that one-way rules are introduced to streamline traffic and reduce congestion, and non-compliance defeats the purpose of traffic planning.

Authorities have urged citizens to strictly follow traffic signage, avoid wrong-side driving, and cooperate with the police to maintain smoother traffic movement in the city. The special drive against one-way violations is expected to continue in the coming days as part of broader traffic management efforts.
