Bengaluru Police to enforce strict New Year 2026 rules: 78 watchtowers, extended metro/bus till 3 a.m., women help desks, and zero tolerance for violations
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh has announced that stringent action will be taken against anyone violating law and order or public safety norms during the upcoming New Year’s Eve festivities. Speaking at a press briefing on December 29, 2025, Singh emphasized that the police will adopt a zero‑tolerance approach towards offences such as drunken driving, public nuisance, dangerous bike stunts, overcrowding, and breaches of safety regulations, particularly in sensitive zones across the city.
Security and Crowd Management
To ensure smooth celebrations, the police have rolled out extensive security arrangements. Surveillance will be strengthened through advanced technology and the installation of 78 watchtowers at major locations. These measures are aimed at improving visibility and monitoring crowd behavior. Traffic management plans have also been prepared to prevent congestion in busy areas.
Public Transport and Passenger Safety
Recognizing the surge in commuters on New Year’s Eve, metro and BMTC bus services will be extended until 3 a.m. Police personnel will be stationed inside trains and buses to safeguard passengers and maintain order.
Venue and Establishment Regulations
Authorities will enforce entry‑exit systems at venues with limited capacity to avoid overcrowding. Hotels, lodges, pubs, and entertainment hubs will undergo strict inspections. Any establishment found flouting licensing or safety norms may face immediate penalties, including temporary closure.
