With Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s October 31 deadline just a day away, the GBA is struggling to complete pothole-filling works across Bengaluru, citing rain and ongoing water board projects as major hurdles.
With the Chief Minister’s deadline for making Bengaluru pothole-free set to expire on October 31, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is facing several challenges in completing the massive task on time. GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao said that continuous rains and simultaneous civic works by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) have caused major delays.

Speaking to reporters, Rao said, “Due to heavy rains in October, road works have been interrupted repeatedly. In several areas, freshly filled potholes were washed away within a day or two. Additionally, BWSSB has ongoing drainage and water pipeline projects at multiple sites, causing further delays.”
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had earlier directed the GBA to fill all potholes in Bengaluru by October 31, setting a strict deadline for civic contractors. However, with only one day left, officials admit that several stretches remain incomplete. Contractors have now been instructed to complete remaining works by November, once weather conditions improve.

The BWSSB has proposed that its utility works and road restoration be carried out jointly to avoid repeated digging and delays. Rao confirmed that the state government is currently discussing this proposal to ensure smoother coordination between civic agencies in the future.
He also said that in several localities, potholes have already been repaired, but due to rain, fresh damage has reappeared. The GBA is working round the clock to address these recurring issues and ensure long-term road durability once the weather stabilizes.
