BESCOM announces planned power disruption on January 17 and 18 for transmission and substation maintenance; several areas on Bengaluru’s outskirts to be affected.
Residents living on the outskirts of Bengaluru should prepare for a prolonged power outage this weekend, as the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has announced a scheduled electricity disruption on January 17 and 18, 2026.
According to BESCOM, the power cut will be in effect from 6 am to 6 pm on both days, impacting several residential and industrial areas. The shutdown is part of planned maintenance and upgradation works on transmission lines and substations, aimed at strengthening the power network and preventing major technical failures in the future.
While the work is essential for grid stability, the extended outage may cause inconvenience to residents, especially those working from home, small businesses, and industries. In some layouts, water supply could also be affected due to the lack of power for pumping systems. Charging electronic devices and running essential appliances could be a challenge during the 12-hour interruption.
