Bengaluru sees a significant dip in day and night temperatures as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moves toward the east coast, with heavy rain likely this weekend.
Bengaluru experienced a notable dip in temperatures, with the city registering 16.1°C as the minimum and 25.2°C as the maximum, both falling below the seasonal average by 1.1°C and 2.2°C respectively. The change occurred even as a deep depression formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the Sri Lanka coast, a system expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm before moving toward India’s east coast.
Forecast models from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre indicate that Bengaluru may see the minimum temperature drop to around 13°C on Saturday, potentially making it one of the coldest November days in recent decades. In the last 24 hours, the lowest temperature within the city limits was recorded at 14.7°C in Yelahanka.
Historical data places the average November maximum temperature at 27.4°C and the minimum at 18.3°C over the past 15 years. The city’s lowest November temperature in this period was 13.3°C, recorded in 2012. The coldest November day ever documented remains 9.6°C, recorded in 1967.
The IMD’s short-term outlook for Bengaluru points to a generally cloudy sky, with mist likely during early mornings and temperatures stabilising around 27°C (maximum) and 17°C (minimum) over the next 48 hours. However, rainfall activity is expected to intensify by Saturday.
According to updated forecasts, heavy rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two locations in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Ramanagara and Chamarajanagar districts as the depression interacts with interior Karnataka.
