With Congress high command stepping in, the Karnataka leadership tussle intensifies ahead of back-to-back meetings in Bengaluru and Delhi.

Karnataka’s ongoing power-sharing battle has entered its most decisive phase, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar set to hold a closely watched breakfast meeting at the CM’s Cauvery residence in Bengaluru. The meeting follows direct instructions from the Congress high command, marking a significant escalation in efforts to end the leadership stand-off within the state government.

According to party sources, the Congress high command, led by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, has scheduled two key meetings in New Delhi on Sunday to address the dispute. Ahead of this, both top state leaders were reportedly asked to sit together, discuss their positions and attempt to arrive at a common understanding before Sunday’s high-voltage deliberations.

The Chief Minister, while speaking about the development, reaffirmed that his stance on the power-sharing arrangement remains unchanged. He also indicated that both he and the Deputy Chief Minister received calls from senior central leaders, prompting today’s meeting. The high command is believed to have conveyed that both leaders should interact directly and seek a consensus before the Delhi discussions.

The political mood intensified further after DK Shivakumar cancelled his scheduled Delhi trip last evening. The sudden cancellation came shortly after the CM’s invitation for today’s breakfast meeting, signalling that the state-level talks were now being prioritised ahead of the national leadership’s intervention.

The high command’s message, as understood from party circles, places strong emphasis on coordination, disciplined communication and adherence to earlier commitments. The CM has reiterated that he will act strictly in line with the directions issued by senior party leaders. The Deputy Chief Minister too has indicated his readiness to follow the high command’s guidance and attend meetings in Delhi if called.
