Bengaluru RO plants set for digital payments, cash era coming to an end?

RO plants to shift from cash to UPI and prepaid payments; authorities consider uniform water pricing for citizens.

Bengaluru residents are in for a major update!

1184 RO plants will soon phase out cash payments. While citizens currently pay in cash, BWSSB is considering UPI and prepaid options for digital transactions.

In April, BWSSB took over the operations of these RO units, and the board is now planning operational and maintenance changes. Currently, contractors manage the RO plants, with water prices varying, some charge ₹5 for 20L, others ₹10, causing confusion among citizens.

To address this, authorities are planning a uniform pricing system for all RO plants. With digital payments, money will go directly to BWSSB’s account. Citizens who cannot use UPI will have prepaid card options, which can also be recharged at BWSSB service centers.

The initiative is expected to be implemented by year-end, aiming to streamline water services and make payments more transparent and convenient for Bengaluru residents.
