A Reddit post mocking Bengaluru’s endless roadworks and potholes has gone viral, highlighting citizens’ frustration over repeated digging and patchwork on city streets.

A Bengaluru resident has struck a chord online with a viral Reddit post mocking the city’s never-ending roadworks. The post, about HSR Layout’s 9th Main Road, describes how the stretch has been dug up “at least 10 times in 11 months.”

The resident humorously compared the roadworks to a subscription service, writing that every 2-3 weeks a new crew arrives, partially patches the road, and disappears until the next “mysterious digging squad” shows up. The patchwork, they said, looks like “Minecraft in real life”, and a bit of rain turns the road into a mud pool with potholes as a surprise bonus level.

Locals and fellow Bengalureans quickly joined the discussion, sharing similar experiences. One commented, “It’s called systematic corruption. They take 80% cut every time a road is dug.” Another joked about searching for hidden treasures from the 1800s. Many pointed out that non-central Bengaluru roads rarely stay intact after resurfacing, with repeated digs for BWSSB pipelines, BESCOM cables, and internet fibre work.

The rant comes amid criticism of the BBMP’s pothole-filling drive, with officials recently claiming that over 35,000 potholes had been identified citywide. Residents, however, argue that poor coordination among civic agencies results in the same stretches being excavated repeatedly, causing waterlogging, traffic snarls, and commuter frustration.

As one Redditor summed it up, “In Bengaluru, the only thing more permanent than a pothole is the plan to fix it.” The viral post has become a rallying cry for citizens tired of the repeated cycle of excavation and patchwork.
