A Bengaluru-based IT professional has cleared more than 130 pending traffic violations amounting to ₹56,500 by utilising the ongoing rebate scheme announced by the Karnataka government. The initiative, which began on August 23 and runs until September 12, allows vehicle owners to settle their challans at half the original penalty amount.

The man’s two vehicles had accumulated a substantial number of infractions, with one car alone accounting for over 100 cases and the second carrying nearly 30. Most of these violations were related to illegal parking and mobile phone usage while driving. By opting for the rebate, he was able to settle the dues at a significantly reduced cost, easing the financial burden.

Rebate campaign

The rebate campaign has been actively promoted by Bengaluru traffic personnel through local WhatsApp groups and community networks, leading to a surge in payments. Many residents are now coming forward to take advantage of the concession before the deadline.

Data from the traffic police shows that as of August 28, authorities had already collected ₹18.9 crore by resolving close to 6.7 lakh cases. The figures highlight both the scale of pending violations in the city and the effectiveness of the scheme in encouraging compliance.

A similar rebate drive conducted in 2023 had generated ₹5.6 crore, but this year’s collection indicates far greater participation. With only a limited window available, officials expect even more vehicle owners to step forward in the coming days.
