Bengaluru to get 66 multi-level parking complexes to ease growing traffic pressure

The GBA is preparing to construct 66 multi-level parking complexes across Bengaluru to address rising traffic congestion. Each facility will hold around 485 cars, with nine floors and seven lifts, developed under the PPP model on identified government land.

  • 66 multi-level parking lots planned across Bengaluru under PPP model
  • Each complex will have nine floors, seven lifts and space for 485 cars
  • Locations being finalised in high-congestion zones on government land

The Greater Bengaluru Authority moves ahead with a large-scale plan to build multi-level parking facilities across traffic-heavy zones to reduce congestion and streamline parking.

Bengaluru is set for a major upgrade in its parking infrastructure as the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) moves forward with a plan to construct 66 multi-level parking complexes across the city. The initiative comes in response to the rising vehicle numbers and persistent congestion in several busy corridors. Traffic police have identified parking shortages as a major factor behind road blockages, prompting the push for dedicated, high-capacity parking solutions.

The GBA is finalising suitable government-owned locations across Bengaluru, focusing primarily on areas with heavy traffic density. These spots are being selected to ensure cars are diverted off the main roads and into structured parking spaces designed to handle large volumes.

Each proposed multi-level facility will be a nine-storey structure equipped with seven lifts to manage vehicle movement efficiently. The design allows space for approximately 485 cars per complex, offering one of the largest organised parking capacities planned for the city so far.

The entire project is being taken up under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, enabling quicker execution and long-term operations through private investment while the government provides land and regulatory support. With the city’s rapid expansion and increasing dependence on private vehicles, the upcoming parking complexes are expected to play a crucial role in easing pressure on major roads.

Once completed, the facilities are intended to significantly reduce roadside parking, improve traffic flow and offer a more reliable parking system for daily commuters across Bengaluru.
