Bengaluru plans night garbage pickup via tipper trucks after daytime collection failures. Pilot runs in Dakshina Corporation; expansion soon
Bengaluru residents may soon find it easier to manage daily waste disposal, with civic officials planning to introduce night-time garbage collection across more neighbourhoods in the city.
The move is being positioned as a fresh push by the GBA to tackle chronic garbage management issues, especially in areas where day-time collection has not been effective. According to officials familiar with the plan, garbage trucks and tipper vehicles will begin collecting waste during night hours as well, reducing pressure on morning collection windows and helping prevent trash from piling up on streets.
The initiative has already been implemented on a pilot basis in the Dakshina Corporation limits and is expected to be expanded to additional wards in the coming days. Authorities said the night collection model is aimed at addressing repeated complaints that some sanitation workers and collection crews were not loading garbage into the designated vehicles during the day. In several instances, waste that should have been lifted was allegedly dumped along road margins, creating black spots and triggering public anger.
Officials said enforcement measures, including issuing fines, did not deliver the intended results. With the garbage problem continuing to strain day-to-day operations, the GBA has now opted for a tighter, scheduled system using tipper trucks at night to ensure waste is lifted and transported directly, rather than being left exposed on streets.

Residents are expected to receive updated instructions on timing and handover points, along with guidance on segregating waste to ensure smoother collection. Civic authorities have urged people not to treat the move as permission to dump garbage at random hours, stressing that the new system will work only if households and commercial establishments follow the notified schedule.
The night collection plan, officials said, is meant to improve cleanliness, reduce daytime overflow, and curb roadside dumping—one of the city’s most persistent civic challenges.
