Bengaluru plans Koramangala-style waste processing units citywide, while also improving road safety and preventing sewage from entering Hulimavu Lake
Bengaluru is set to replicate the Koramangala waste processing model across all assembly constituencies, according to Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K N Ramesh. During an inspection of the Koramangala waste processing facility on Wednesday, Ramesh announced that similar decentralised units would be established citywide to improve solid waste management.
At the Koramangala unit, he reviewed the functioning of the biomethanisation plant and examined the methods used to process segregated solid waste. Officials briefed him on how dry waste such as discarded beds, footwear, damaged machinery, bottles and other materials is documented, stored and dispatched from the dry waste collection centre. The corporation noted that local residents have welcomed the efficient handling of both wet and dry waste at the facility, describing it as an effective model for urban waste processing.
Ramesh also inspected civic works on Hulimavu Main Road, where he instructed engineers to ensure proper asphalting, lane markings and zebra crossings for the safety of motorists and pedestrians. At Hulimavu Lake, he directed officials to prevent sewage and wastewater flowing through stormwater drains from entering the waterbody, underlining the need to protect lakes from pollution in rapidly growing neighbourhoods.
