Bengaluru traffic police book 10,179 motorists in 6 days for high‑beam violations, collecting ₹50.89 lakh in fines during the Dazzling Light drive

Bengaluru traffic police have booked more than 10,000 motorists in just six days for using unauthorised or high-beam vehicle lights within city limits. The enforcement drive, titled Dazzling Light, was carried out between January 7 and January 12, targeting violations that contribute to road accidents caused by glare.

According to official data, a total of 10,179 drivers and riders were penalised during the campaign, with fines amounting to Rs 50.89 lakh. The initiative included a special night enforcement on January 10, during which 1,843 cases were registered across the city.

The west division recorded the highest number of violations, booking 1,025 cases on January 10 alone and 5,391 cases overall during the six-day period. The south division reported 331 cases during the night drive and 1,858 cumulatively. The east division registered 329 cases on January 10 and 1,731 in total, while the north division booked 158 cases during the night enforcement and 1,199 cases overall.

More than 15 enforcement teams were deployed at strategic locations across Bengaluru, particularly during night hours. Most violators were issued spot fines and instructed to remove additional or high-intensity lights immediately. Authorities have indicated that repeat offenders will face enhanced penalties under compounding provisions.

The traffic police emphasised that the campaign was not limited to enforcement but also aimed at raising awareness among motorists. High-beam lights within city limits can temporarily impair the vision of oncoming drivers and other road users, significantly increasing accident risks.

By combining strict enforcement with awareness measures, the Dazzling Light drive sought to promote safer driving practices and reduce hazards caused by dazzling headlights. Officials confirmed that similar checks will continue to ensure compliance and improve road safety across Bengaluru.
