  • Full-scale towing to return across Bengaluru
  • Ten new tow trucks to support enforcement
  • Corporations to set up spaces for seized vehicles

New towing fleet and stricter enforcement planned to clear congested Bengaluru roads.

In a renewed effort to ease Bengaluru’s worsening traffic disruptions, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is preparing to restart full-scale towing operations across the city. The move comes after repeated complaints about haphazard roadside parking and stalled vehicles blocking key routes in high-density areas.

As part of the plan, the authority will add ten new towing vehicles to its fleet. Each of the five municipal corporations is set to receive two tow trucks, which will be placed under the operational control of the city’s traffic police stations. This expanded fleet is expected to strengthen on-ground enforcement and speed up the removal of vehicles parked without authorization.

According to officials, instructions have been issued to fast-track the procurement process so that towing can resume at scale without delay. Municipal bodies have also been directed to identify suitable locations where seized or towed vehicles can be securely parked, preventing clutter on public roads and ensuring smoother management once the vehicles are removed.

The initiative was finalised during a recent high-level review meeting, where several civic concerns were assessed. Alongside illegal parking, unauthorised road-cutting emerged as a key issue, prompting directives to strictly curb such violations. The authority noted that these parallel efforts are essential to improving mobility and maintaining road infrastructure across Bengaluru.

The revived towing drive is expected to send a clear message against long-term or disorderly parking on public roads, while supporting the broader goal of keeping traffic moving in the city’s already congested corridors.
