Bengaluru’s 500‑year‑old Kadalekai Parishe at Bull Temple grew into a 5‑day fair in 2025, drawing 12 lakh visitors
Bengaluru’s historic ‘Kadalekai Parishe’, the famed groundnut fair at Basavanagudi’s Bull Temple, drew unprecedented crowds in 2025 as the festival expanded into a five‑old history.
The Parishe, which dates back almost 500 years, began when farmers offered their first groundnut harvest to Nandi, the bull deity, after legends of a bull troubling their fields at night. Over time, the ritual evolved into a vibrant gathering that blends faith, folklore, and community spirit.
This year, Basavanagudi and surrounding neighborhoods were transformed with festive lights, cultural performances, and bustling marketplaces. Farmers showcased their harvests while visitors enjoyed traditional music, dance, and local delicacies, reinforcing the Parishe’s role as both an agricultural fair and a social carnival.

Authorities emphasized sustainability, encouraging the use of cloth and newspaper bags instead of plastic. To manage the massive crowds, more than 700 police personnel were deployed, supported by CCTV surveillance, public toilets, and volunteers ensuring safety and cleanliness.
Beyond its religious significance, the Parishe remains a living symbol of Bengaluru’s heritage, uniting people across Karnataka and neighboring states in celebration of tradition and community.
