  • DPR work begins for Madavara-Tumakuru Metro
  • 59.60-km inter-district corridor planned
  • Final decision after central government approval

BMRCL has formally launched the process for the Madavara-Tumakuru Metro extension by awarding the DPR tender, marking a major step towards Karnataka’s first inter-district Metro corridor.

The long-discussed Bengaluru-Tumakuru inter-district Metro project has moved a step closer to reality, with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officially initiating work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The move signals fresh momentum for what is expected to be Karnataka’s first Metro line connecting two districts.

As part of the process, BMRCL has finalised the tender for preparing the DPR for the Madavara to Tumakuru Metro extension. The contract has been awarded to RV Engineering Consultants Limited for a value of ₹1.26 crore. The agency has been instructed to complete the DPR and submit it to BMRCL within five months.

The proposed Metro corridor will cover a distance of 59.60 kilometres, running through Madavara, Nelamangala, Dabaspet, Kyathsandra and Tumakuru. This stretch is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity and reduce dependence on road transport along the busy Bengaluru-Tumakuru route.

According to BMRCL, the DPR will involve a detailed study of multiple alignment options for the Metro line. The consultant will also carry out geotechnical investigations, local field surveys, and assessments of environmental and technical aspects to determine feasibility and optimal routing.

At present, the Green Line of Namma Metro operates between Madavara and Silk Institute, covering a length of approximately 33.46 kilometres with 31 operational stations. The proposed extension aims to take Metro connectivity beyond Bengaluru city limits and into neighbouring Tumakuru district.

Once the DPR is completed and submitted, it will be forwarded to the Central Government for approval. Officials have clarified that final decisions on execution will be taken only after central clearance is received.

With DPR preparation now officially underway, the Madavara-Tumakuru Metro project has entered a crucial planning phase, raising expectations for faster, reliable and sustainable inter-district public transport in the coming years.
