  • Raised sewer chambers blocking the road
  • Road work delayed for over a year
  • Accidents increasing due to unsafe conditions

Poor coordination between BWSSB and GBA  has delayed road work, leaving raised sewer chambers in the middle of the road and putting lives at risk.

For residents and commuters of Neelasandra’s Rose Garden Road, everyday travel has become a stressful and risky task. What began as a routine underground drainage and road improvement project nearly two years ago has now turned into a long-running civic problem, mainly due to poor coordination between the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and the erstwhile Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The sewerage work on this road was taken up almost two years ago. Initially, the project progressed quickly, and BWSSB completed the construction of a new underground drainage tunnel within six months. However, after finishing its part of the job, the agency left several drainage chambers raised nearly one foot above the road surface.

Despite the completion of sewer works, the BBMP failed to begin the road-laying process. As a result, these elevated chamber covers now stand awkwardly in the middle of the road, becoming a major obstruction for vehicles. Motorists are forced to navigate around these raised structures, increasing the risk of collisions and falls.

Local residents say that even a moment of inattention can lead to accidents. Several two-wheeler riders and motorists have already crashed into these protruding chambers, leading to injuries and damage to vehicles. The situation becomes especially dangerous during night hours and rainfall, when visibility and road grip are poor.

According to locals, BBMP plans to construct the road at the same height as the sewer chambers. However, delays in executing this plan have only worsened the situation. What was meant to improve infrastructure has instead become a daily threat to public safety.

Angry residents have warned the authorities to complete the road work immediately, holding them responsible for any loss of life that may occur due to continued negligence. They demand urgent action, proper coordination between departments, and quick completion of the project to restore safe road conditions.
