  • BDA’s ₹500 crore Magadi–Mysuru link road delayed to early 2026
  • Rain and pending railway clearance stalled Challaghatta underpass work
  • Road to connect to Bengaluru–Mysuru highway via a T-junction initially

The much-awaited 11-km arterial road connecting Magadi Road with the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway faces another delay, with the new completion target pushed to early 2026 due to weather and clearance hurdles.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has extended the deadline for opening the crucial Magadi Road-Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway link road to early 2026, following repeated delays caused by monsoon disruptions and pending railway approvals. The 11-kilometre six-lane road, aimed at improving connectivity across the western outskirts of the city, was initially slated for completion in November 2025.

Officials confirmed that most construction activities are nearing completion, but progress on the railway underpass near Challaghatta has been held up due to continuous rainfall over the last two months and the wait for clearances from the South Western Railway (SWR). The underpass, being built using advanced box-push technology, requires line and power blocks from SWR before girder launching can begin.

The underpass is designed to be 14 metres wide, with each precast box segment measuring 40 metres in length. Once the girder launch is completed, push-boxing work will follow, enabling smooth movement under the busy Bengaluru–Mysuru railway line. BDA expects to open the road for public use soon after, providing a signal-free connection between Magadi Road and the access-controlled highway.

The project, costing around ₹500 crore, passes through key areas including Kambipura, Challaghatta, K Krishnanagar, Bhimanakuppe, Kommaghatta, Sulikere, Kenchanapura, Kannalli, and Machohalli, serving both residents and commuters. Several major bridges, culverts, and rotary junctions have been completed as part of the alignment to ensure seamless traffic flow.

To avoid congestion at the Challaghatta junction, stakeholders have urged the BDA and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to create a comprehensive integration plan linking the arterial road with the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. For now, the road will connect through a T-junction, but a full-scale integration, including underpasses, cloverleaf interchanges, and signal-free corridors, will be undertaken when the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR-2) project takes shape.

The PRR-2 corridor will ultimately link Hosur Road with the Bengaluru-Mysuru Road and the new arterial road, completing a long-pending plan to decongest the city’s outer transport network. Once approvals are received from NHAI, the BDA will execute the next phase to ensure a smoother flow of vehicles between western and southern Bengaluru.
