Bengaluru’s February heat shocks residents as temps hit 30°C highs and 19°C lows. Hoodies are swapped for cotton shirts, ACs switched on, and jokes flood social media
Bengaluru, long admired for its mild and breezy climate, is experiencing an unexpected surge in temperatures this February, leaving residents both surprised and uncomfortable. The city, often associated with cool mornings and light woollens, has quickly shifted to warm afternoons, with many households turning to fans and air conditioners instead of sweaters.
In recent days, maximum temperatures have hovered around 30°C, while minimums remain near 19°C. Though not extreme compared to other Indian cities, the sudden rise feels unusual for Bengaluru, where moderate weather has traditionally been the norm. The abrupt change has caught residents off guard, forcing wardrobes to switch from hoodies to cotton shirts almost overnight.
Social media has become a platform for witty commentary, with users joking about the city’s transformation from “jacket weather to AC weather” in record time. Posts advising people to buy air conditioners before stocks run out reflect both humour and genuine concern.

For decades, many Bengaluru homes did not require air conditioning, thanks to the city’s temperate climate. Now, with weather patterns becoming less predictable, residents are reconsidering. Some admit they had never thought of owning an AC, but this year’s warmth is prompting second thoughts.
Clear skies continue to dominate the forecast, with sunrise around 6:37 am and sunset near 6:27 pm. While the current temperatures may not seem severe, the shift raises questions about whether Bengaluru’s famed “perfect weather” is entering a new era of unpredictability.
For now, residents are coping with humour, online banter, and cautious browsing of cooling appliances. As the city swaps its woollens for hand fans, one thing remains constant: Bengaluru’s weather continues to surprise.
