BMTC extends bus operations to Bengaluru’s outskirts and rural zones, connecting key towns and easing daily travel for lakhs of passengers.
In a major boost for Bengaluru’s commuters, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has announced a significant expansion of its bus services to the city’s outskirts and surrounding rural areas. This move is expected to greatly benefit thousands of daily passengers who travel to the city for work, education, and healthcare.
Until now, BMTC buses were limited to operating within a 40-kilometre radius from the city. With the latest decision, the service range has been doubled, allowing buses to run up to 80 kilometres from Bengaluru. This expansion aims to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and provide affordable transport to residents in suburban and rural regions.

Under the new plan, direct bus connectivity will now be available to Ramanagara, Kanakapura, Nelamangala, Hoskote, Devanahalli, and Doddaballapur. These routes will ensure smoother travel for people commuting daily between the city and nearby towns.
The newly introduced services include routes from the Satellite Bus Stand on Mysuru Road to Ramanagara, Banashankari Bus Stand to Kanakapura, and Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic) to Nelamangala, Hoskote, Devanahalli, and Doddaballapur. This structured route planning is expected to streamline travel and improve passenger convenience.

BMTC officials say the expansion will particularly help students, office-goers, and patients who frequently travel to Bengaluru for education, employment, and medical treatment. With improved public transport options, dependence on private vehicles is likely to decrease, leading to reduced travel expenses and better time management for commuters.
Currently, BMTC operates a fleet of 6,750 buses, including electric vehicles. Every day, nearly 45 lakh passengers use BMTC services, covering an average distance of about 13 lakh kilometres. With the service extension, the passenger count is expected to rise further in the coming months.
