For the first time ever, BMTC will roll beyond Bengaluru city limits and operate up to 40 km outside GBA, fulfilling a long-pending demand of rural commuters.
Bengaluru’s public transport network is set for a historic leap. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is gearing up to run its fleet up to 40 km beyond the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits for the very first time.
Until now, BMTC services were largely restricted to within a 25 km radius from the city and had only a handful of buses serving select pockets of Bengaluru Rural district. This often forced daily commuters from Ramanagara, Channapatna, Kanakapura, Harohalli, and Magadi to depend on private operators or KSRTC schedules, leading to overcrowding and long waits.
This move comes as a major relief to thousands of people living just outside the city limits but working or studying in Bengaluru. Officials confirm that the expansion will include direct BMTC services connecting key Bengaluru hubs to Ramanagara, Channapatna, Magadi, Harohalli, and Kanakapura, covering both peak-hour office routes and off-peak timings.

Residents of Bengaluru Rural have long demanded better and more frequent bus services, and this decision is being hailed as a major step towards inclusive mobility. Timings, routes, and schedules are likely to be announced soon.
