  • Bail of Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and 5 others revoked by SC
  • All accused to be sent back to jail
  • Case involves June 2024 murder of Renukaswamy

In a dramatic turn, the Supreme Court has revoked the bail of Kannada actor Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and five others in the Renukaswamy murder case.

In a major twist to the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, the Supreme Court has cancelled the bail of Kannada actor Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda, and five other accused, ordering all seven to return to jail.

The decision overturns the Karnataka High Court’s December 13, 2024, order that had granted regular bail to all 17 accused in the case. The state government had challenged that ruling, arguing that the gravity of the crime and the influence of the accused warranted their continued detention.

The case centres on the brutal killing of Chitradurga resident Renukaswamy, who had allegedly sent obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda. On June 8, 2024, he was allegedly abducted, tortured, and murdered. Darshan, Pavithra, and 15 others were arrested on June 11.

Following their arrest, the accused were lodged in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara prison, but Darshan was later shifted to Ballari prison after a photograph showing him receiving VIP treatment went viral. He secured interim medical bail on October 30, before the High Court granted regular bail in December.

The Supreme Court’s latest ruling means Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and the other five key accused will soon be back behind bars, marking a significant victory for the prosecution and a dramatic setback for the defence.
