A long-pending waste dumping problem outside a GBA member’s office and a health centre has turned daily life into a health hazard for residents, patients, and children.
Living conditions in Banashankari Yarab Nagar have deteriorated sharply as an unchecked garbage dump continues to spread foul smell and disease risks in the area. Residents say the stench is so intense that breathing itself has become difficult, making everyday life unbearable.
The most alarming aspect is the location of the garbage pile. A large heap of waste lies right in front of a GBA elected representative’s office and a government health centre. Locals fear that patients visiting the health facility are exposed to unhygienic surroundings, potentially worsening their health instead of aiding recovery.
The problem extends beyond smell. Flies, mosquitoes, stray dogs, and rats swarm the area, creating a serious public health threat. Residents report a sharp increase in mosquito breeding, raising concerns over dengue and other vector-borne diseases.

Adding to the worry, an anganwadi centre is located close to the dumping spot. Parents are anxious about young children being exposed daily to filth, infections, and unsafe surroundings. Locals say children are forced to pass through or stay near the garbage-filled area, putting their health at risk.
Residents allege that the issue is not new. According to them, the garbage problem has persisted for several years, with no permanent solution in sight. Despite repeated complaints, the situation remains unchanged.
Shockingly, locals claim that sanitation workers themselves dump waste at this location, after which the garbage remains unattended. This has sparked anger among residents, who question the absence of accountability and proper waste management planning.
People living in Yarab Nagar are now demanding clear answers: Why is there no defined garbage dumping boundary? Why has a residential and institutional area been turned into an open dump? The continued neglect has led to growing public outrage.
Residents urge the authorities to immediately clear the waste, stop dumping at the site, and provide a long-term solution to ensure clean surroundings, safe access to healthcare, and a healthy environment for children.
