BWSSB to launch One-Time Settlement in Jan–Mar 2026, waiving 100% interest/penalties for defaulters clearing principal dues via app or website

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has introduced a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme aimed at providing relief to thousands of water bill defaulters in Bengaluru. Under this initiative, consumers who clear their outstanding principal amount in a single payment will receive a complete waiver on accumulated interest and penalties.

The scheme has been approved by the State Government’s Urban Development Department and will be available for a three-month period from January to March 2026. It is expected to help regularise accounts and significantly improve revenue recovery for the board.

BWSSB has adopted the Hyderabad Model, which previously achieved notable success in recovering long-pending dues. The process will be automated, ensuring transparency and eliminating the need for intermediaries. Once the principal amount is paid, the system will automatically remove the interest component, allowing consumers to settle their debts efficiently.

To make the scheme accessible, BWSSB is developing a dedicated mobile application along with its official website for online registrations. Residential consumers can apply digitally, while special teams will visit government offices and commercial establishments to facilitate settlements.

The official launch date and detailed payment schedule will be announced after consultations with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Authorities believe the scheme will ease financial stress for households while strengthening the board’s ability to recover dues.
