  • Drivers accuse Ola and Uber of underpayment
  • Complaints filed with the Karnataka Transport Department
  • Apps allegedly pay ₹14–₹16/km instead of ₹24/km

Drivers accuse Ola, Uber and other aggregator apps of underpaying them, violating government fare rules, and exploiting both commuters and drivers alike.

In Bengaluru, cab drivers have raised serious allegations against online aggregator apps such as Ola and Uber, claiming that the companies are cheating both drivers and passengers. The drivers allege that despite clear government regulations, these app-based companies are paying them far less than the approved per kilometre rate.

The Karnataka Transport Department has fixed ₹24 per kilometre as the official fare. However, many drivers claim they are being paid only ₹14–₹16 per kilometre during non-peak hours. The situation has left hundreds of drivers struggling to earn fair wages despite long working hours.

Frustrated drivers have now filed formal complaints with the Transport Department, submitting proof of payment discrepancies. Some drivers revealed that while they were supposed to receive ₹4,449, they got only ₹1,999; another received ₹849 instead of ₹1,199. Drivers argue that these apps exploit their labour while taking a large share of their earnings.

They further claim that the aggregator platforms adjust rates arbitrarily based on “peak” and “non-peak” hours, leading to inconsistent payments. Drivers say, “We do the hard work, but they take the profits.” They are urging the Transport Department to strictly enforce the ₹24/km rule to ensure fair pay and transparency.
