Greed for quick wealth led a trusted cashier to betray his employer, execute a planned burglary with friends, and splurge ₹10 lakh in just two days before police closed in.

In a shocking case of betrayal and greed, a cashier working at a builder’s office in Bengaluru’s Sadashivanagar BEL Layout plotted and executed a massive theft of ₹91 lakh with the help of his friends. The accused, identified as Dhananjay, worked as a cashier and accountant at the office of builder Narasimha for the past three years, earning a monthly salary of ₹30,000.

Despite handling daily cash transactions worth crores, Dhananjay was distressed by his modest income and developed a strong desire to become rich quickly. This obsession led him to hatch a detailed plan to rob the very office where he worked. Being the cashier, he had complete knowledge of where the cash was stored, which made it easier to plan the theft.

Dhananjay contacted his friends from Davanagere and Shivamogga, and together, the four men decided to carry out the burglary. On February 20, the gang broke open the office lock and made away with ₹91 lakh in cash.

However, their celebration was short-lived. Within just two days, the accused splurged ₹10 lakh on leisure, luxury, and entertainment. Meanwhile, the police tracked their movements and arrested Dhananjay and his accomplice Praveen. Two others, Tippesh and Sunil, are currently absconding, and a manhunt is underway to nab them.

During the investigation, police recovered ₹81.66 lakh in cash, which had been hidden at a residence in Malavagoppa, Shivamogga. The remaining amount had already been spent by the accused.
