A minute-by-minute account reveals CJ Roy’s arrival at his office, the IT notice, his sudden silence, and the moments that led to the tragic end
Fresh details have emerged in the suicide case of Dr. C.J. Roy, shedding light on the crucial final 15 minutes before the Confident Group chairman took his life. Investigators are now reconstructing the sequence of events that unfolded inside his office on January 30 afternoon.
According to official sources, Dr. C.J. Roy arrived at the Confident Group office around 3 pm. At that time, Income Tax (IT) officials were already inside the premises, examining documents as part of an ongoing inquiry. Roy had come specifically to appear before the IT officials and record his statement.
He reached the office along with T.J. Joseph, the Kerala Managing Director of the Confident Group. Sources said that while on the way, Roy had expressed his intention to clarify issues related to the IT raids and cooperate with the officers.

Shortly after his arrival, around 3:05 pm, IT officials formally served a notice to C.J. Roy. He signed the notice acknowledgment and collected the copy. However, moments after receiving the notice, Roy reportedly fell silent and appeared withdrawn, according to those present.
Immediately after this, Roy instructed security personnel not to allow anyone into his cabin. He then remained alone inside the cabin for nearly 10 minutes, raising no immediate suspicion among staff.
At approximately 3:16 pm, Dr. C.J. Roy shot himself in the chest while seated on the chairman’s chair inside his cabin, resulting in his death. The incident shocked employees and officials present in the office.

Investigators are also probing whether Roy used his mobile phone shortly before his death. Based on this suspicion, his mobile phone has been seized and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for detailed examination.
Police officials said the findings from the FSL analysis and technical evidence will be critical in understanding the final moments leading to the incident.
