CM Siddaramaiah inaugurates 700-metre Hebbal Flyover loop

The BDA’s two-lane elevated loop at Hebbal Junction, was inaugurated by CM Siddaramaiah on Monday, promising smoother travel and marking the Congress government’s first major road project.

Bengaluru’s much-congested Hebbal Junction is set to breathe easier as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday inaugurated a 700-metre elevated loop built by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). The new two-lane carriageway, expanded from the earlier single-lane loop, aims to ease the city’s busiest traffic corridor by offering signal-free movement for vehicles from KR Puram and Nagawara towards Mekhri Circle.

Adding prominence to the event, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, BDA President N A Haris, Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, MLAs S R Vishwanath, Byrathi Suresh and Sandalwood actress Ramya also participated in the inauguration ceremony, drawing attention from both political and public circles.

This project marks the first major road infrastructure launch by the Congress government since it returned to power more than two years ago. Officials highlighted that the widened loop will cut down the need for constant traffic police intervention at Hebbal, where airport-bound and city-bound vehicles often clashed, causing gridlocks.

The launch, however, is just the first phase. Phase 2 construction is already underway, with BDA building another two-lane loop to allow smoother entry for vehicles from the airport and Kodigehalli side. This work is expected to be completed within the next three months, offering commuters further relief.

Yet, traffic experts caution that the junction’s woes will not end entirely. Vehicles traveling between KR Puram and BEL Circle will still face bottlenecks. While an underpass was initially planned, the government is now proposing a 2 km tunnel road, seen as a long-term solution to untangle Hebbal’s notorious traffic snarls.
