Company says police probe into C.J. Roy’s death is progressing fairly, rejects claims of pressure from Income Tax officials and refutes rumours of celebrity investments.

Inter-State real estate major Confident Group on Monday, February 9, expressed satisfaction over the ongoing police investigation into the alleged suicide of its chairman, C.J. Roy, who died on January 30 during a search at his office by Income Tax (I-T) officials.

Addressing the media, Managing Director T.A. Joseph firmly rejected claims that harassment by I-T officials had pushed Roy to take the extreme step. He said the department was only performing its duty and there was no pressure or intimidation from any official. According to him, had there been any form of harassment, the company would have immediately responded and taken appropriate action.

Mr. Joseph also accused a section of online media of running a smear campaign against the late chairman after his death. He maintained that Confident Group had not committed any illegal activity and that misleading reports were unfairly targeting the company and its leadership.

On the allegation made by Roy’s brother that harassment by the I-T department forced the chairman to end his life, Mr. Joseph described it as an emotional reaction rather than a factual claim. He added that, to his knowledge, Roy did not suffer from any financial difficulties, health problems, or family issues.

Explaining the withdrawal of a petition filed by Roy before the Karnataka High Court challenging the I-T searches, Mr. Joseph said he had personally advised the late chairman to revoke it. He felt there was no need to engage in legal conflict with any government agency.

Reassuring customers and investors, Mr. Joseph stated that the company’s financial health remained strong and stable. He emphasized that Confident Group is a debt-free firm with no external investors and confirmed that work on all projects has resumed at full pace.
