A 60-year-old woman died after slipping while getting off a BMTC electric bus, adding to a growing list of recent accidents involving city buses.
A tragic accident involving a BMTC electric bus claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman in Govindarajanagar on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around noon when the woman, identified as Sushilamma, slipped while stepping off the bus and fell near the rear wheel. Before she could move to safety, the bus continued moving, running over her.
The electric bus, bearing registration number KA51 AH 4246, was operating on its regular route when the accident took place. According to initial information, the driver did not notice the woman fall while alighting. The impact was fatal, and her daughter, who was standing nearby, broke down in distress as the accident unfolded in front of her.

Soon after the incident, both the driver and the conductor abandoned the bus and fled the spot. Police teams arrived soon after and began preliminary investigation while securing the bus for inspection.
The accident comes at a time when BMTC buses have been involved in a series of mishaps across Bengaluru. Earlier in the day, another person reportedly lost their life in a separate BMTC-related accident in the city, raising concerns over operational safety and driver vigilance.
The police are now tracking the absconding staff and examining CCTV footage from the area.
