A shocking incident of domestic homicide has been reported from Bengaluru, where a 65-year-old man allegedly killed his wife by strangling her with a towel. The incident occurred around 11 pm on Tuesday night within the limits of Avalahalli Police Station.

The accused has been identified as Nagaleshwar Rao (65), a retired employee of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). According to preliminary investigations, he allegedly strangled his wife, Sandhya, using a towel, leading to her death on the spot.

Police officials stated that initial observations indicate the accused was behaving like a person suffering from mental distress. During questioning, Nagaleshwar Rao reportedly told the police that he committed the act out of fear about his wife’s future. He allegedly said that since both of them were elderly and had no close relatives to take care of her, he feared what would happen to her after his death.

The accused reportedly expressed concern, stating that he himself was old and weak and that their only daughter lives in the United States. He allegedly believed that there would be no one to look after his wife in the future, which led him to take the extreme step.

The couple’s daughter is currently residing in the US, and there are reportedly no immediate relatives living nearby. This aspect is also being examined as part of the investigation.

Following the incident, Avalahalli police rushed to the spot, detained the accused, and later placed him under arrest. A detailed investigation is currently underway to establish the exact sequence of events, assess the mental condition of the accused, and verify all circumstances surrounding the crime.

Police have registered a murder case and are continuing further legal procedures.
