GBA launches a new initiative to create climate action plans at the ward level, aiming to address transport, waste, water, dust, and disaster management problems through technical solutions and public input.
In a significant step towards solving local civic and environmental issues, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has unveiled a new plan to prepare ward-level Climate Action Plans across its jurisdiction. The initiative aims to identify area-specific problems and develop practical, technical solutions through detailed analysis and public participation.
As part of the first phase, one ward from each of the five city corporations under the GBA has been selected for preparing comprehensive climate action plans. These include Shanthinagar Ward in Bengaluru Central, Jakkur Ward in Bengaluru North, Begur Ward in Bengaluru South, Vignapura Ward in Bengaluru East, and Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar Ward in Bengaluru West.
Officials said the ward-level approach will help understand ground-level challenges and provide tailored solutions. Public feedback will be collected to identify key local problems, after which expert teams will assess the technical feasibility of resolving them. Based on this assessment, suitable action plans will be drafted.

The Climate Action Plans will focus on critical sectors such as transport and mobility issues, solid waste management, dust and air pollution, water scarcity, rainwater management, and disaster preparedness. Authorities believe this structured framework will enable long-term solutions to persistent civic challenges.
GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao stated that the initiative is designed to empower local communities and ensure evidence-based planning. He added that dedicated technical teams will be formed to analyse reported problems and recommend effective interventions.
The project will later be expanded to cover more wards across the city, making climate-focused governance a core part of urban planning. Officials emphasized that this step will not only improve living conditions but also strengthen resilience against climate-related risks.
