35-year-old mother of a four-year-old allegedly took her life following domestic disputes and alleged harassment by in-laws

A 35-year-old former IT professional died by suicide in Bengaluru, with her family alleging sustained domestic harassment by her in-laws as the reason behind the tragic incident.

The deceased has been identified as Sushma (35), who previously worked as an engineer at Dell. She had left her job and was residing with her husband and in-laws.

According to police, Sushma had married Puneeth Kumar five years ago. The couple has a four-year-old son. Investigators stated that frequent arguments reportedly took place within the household, often over minor issues.

On Tuesday, a heated argument allegedly broke out between Sushma and her mother-in-law, Kalpana, over cooking-related matters. Police said the dispute escalated into a major verbal altercation. Following the argument, Sushma allegedly hanged herself inside the house.

After the incident, Sushma’s parents levelled serious allegations against her husband’s family. They claimed that Kalpana regularly prevented Sushma from cooking in the house and intentionally subjected her to mental harassment. The family further alleged that repeated quarrels were deliberately initiated over trivial matters, causing severe emotional distress to Sushma.

Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s family, a case has been registered under charges related to dowry harassment. Police have arrested husband Puneeth Kumar in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Kalpana, the mother-in-law, is reportedly absconding. Police teams have launched a search operation to trace her. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and further legal action will follow based on findings.
