Two Vidyaranyapura college students missing since January 31; left phones behind, carried only Aadhaar cards; police search over 50 locations

A month after two college students went missing from Vidyaranyapura, there is still no breakthrough in the case, leaving families in distress and police under pressure.

The missing students have been identified as Tanisha, a 2nd PU student, and Tejaswini, a 1st PU student. According to their families, both girls left home on January 31 and never returned. A complaint was immediately lodged with the police.

What has raised concern is the manner in which they disappeared. The two students reportedly left their mobile phones at home and did not carry any ATM cards or money-related items. They took only their Aadhaar cards and their college bags before leaving. This has made it difficult for investigators to track their movement digitally.

Police suspect that the students may have travelled using free bus services by showing their Aadhaar cards, but there is no confirmed evidence so far. Over the past month, officers have searched more than 50 locations in and around the region, but no solid leads have emerged.

A few days after going missing, the girls reportedly contacted some friends and said they were at Mahadeshwara Betta. They also informed them that they would call again in a week. However, since that call, neither the families nor the police have been able to establish any contact with them.

Family members say there may be an academic pressure angle. Last year, Tanisha had allegedly harmed herself by cutting her hand to avoid examinations. With exams approaching again this year, she is suspected to have left home along with her junior. Investigators are examining whether fear of exams could have been a reason behind their disappearance.

As days passed without progress, the families approached the Karnataka High Court and filed a habeas corpus petition. The court has reportedly given authorities one week’s time to take further action.

Meanwhile, the families continue to wait anxiously, hoping for the safe return of their children.
