Urban Development Department publishes ward reservation details across five Bengaluru city corporations; political activity intensifies as aspirants prepare for the upcoming Greater Bengaluru Authority elections.
Bengaluru is moving closer to conducting the much-awaited Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) elections, as the Urban Development Department has officially released the ward reservation list. The announcement has laid the groundwork for the polls and sparked strong political activity across the city.
According to the notification, reservations have been announced for all 369 wards that fall under the jurisdiction of five city corporations within the GBA framework. One of the key highlights of the list is the significant representation given to women, with 176 wards reserved for women candidates.
The reservation structure across the city shows that 192 wards fall under the General category. In addition, 97 wards have been reserved for Backward Class ‘A’ (BCA), 43 wards for Scheduled Castes (SC), 24 wards for Backward Class ‘B’ (BCB), and 7 wards for Scheduled Tribes (ST).

The reservation list also details the distribution across the five municipal corporations that form the Greater Bengaluru Authority area.
Under Bengaluru City Corporation, which has 72 wards, the reservation breakup includes 40 General category wards, 34 reserved for women, 19 BCA, 7 SC, 5 BCB, and 1 ST.
Similarly, Bengaluru North City Corporation, also consisting of 72 wards, has 37 General category wards, 34 women-reserved wards, 19 BCA, 9 SC, 5 BCB, and 2 ST wards.
The Bengaluru West City Corporation has the highest number of wards at 112. Among these, 64 wards fall under the General category, 55 are reserved for women, 30 for BCA, 9 for SC, 7 for BCB, and 2 for ST.
In Bengaluru East City Corporation, which comprises 50 wards, the distribution includes 25 General category wards, 23 women-reserved wards, 14 BCA, 7 SC, 3 BCB, and 1 ST ward.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru Central City Corporation, with 63 wards, has 32 General category wards, 30 reserved for women, 15 BCA, 11 SC, 4 BCB, and 1 ST ward.
The GBA elections had been pending for a long time, and the release of the ward reservation details is being seen as a major step toward finally conducting the polls. With the groundwork now underway, the State Election Commission is expected to announce the election dates soon, which will formally kickstart the election process across the city.
