Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao directs strict monitoring of infrastructure works, fire safety steps, and civic reforms across five city corporations.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has decided to tighten oversight on key civic issues by forming dedicated task forces to monitor road widening works and unauthorised constructions across the limits of the city’s five corporations.
The decision was announced on Wednesday by GBA Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao during a coordination meeting of multiple departments functioning under the GBA. The meeting focused on resolving delays and challenges faced during the execution of development projects in Bengaluru. The move follows repeated allegations by civic activists that officials have failed to take firm action against errant building owners.
Referring to infrastructure bottlenecks, Rao spoke about the Panathur Road stretch under the East City Corporation. He said a new road must be developed near the railway line and adjoining forest land to ease public movement. He instructed officials to coordinate with all concerned stakeholders and initiate the work at the earliest.

Rao also directed inspections of the ongoing widening works on Nagawara Main Road and Hosur Road near Anepalya Junction to ensure progress and quality. Emphasising accountability, he ordered the installation of a face-recognition-based attendance system for pourakarmikas in all corporation offices.
While the system is already operational in the Central City Corporation, other corporations have been given a two-week deadline to implement it.
With summer approaching, Rao stressed the need for preventive measures against fire accidents. He instructed officials to install hydrant systems across the city and construct water storage tanks in identified vulnerable areas. He also called for the establishment of a dedicated fire control room under the GBA.

Addressing pending railway infrastructure works, Rao asked officials to prepare a comprehensive list of all railway overpass and underpass projects in Bengaluru. He further directed them to convene a meeting with railway authorities to expedite completion of long-pending works.
