  • Skywalks proposed at 18 major traffic hotspots
  • Focus on Metro zones, IT corridors, and Outer Ring Road
  • Construction planned within the next 2-3 years

Proposal focuses on high-traffic junctions, Outer Ring Road, IT corridors, and Metro-connected zones to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow.

In a major step towards easing traffic congestion and enhancing pedestrian safety, the South Zone of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has proposed the construction of skywalks at 18 high-traffic locations across South Bengaluru.

The proposal focuses on areas that experience heavy vehicular movement, particularly major junctions, Outer Ring Road stretches, Metro station surroundings, and IT corridor routes. Officials said the initiative is aimed at reducing pedestrian-road conflict, improving traffic flow, and providing safer crossing points in accident-prone zones.

The civic body plans to submit detailed proposals for all 18 identified locations. These skywalks are expected to be constructed over the next two to three years, based on project approvals, funding allocation, and phased implementation.

In addition to these, authorities are also planning skywalk construction at other high-density zones across the city, depending on traffic studies and public demand.

Special emphasis has been placed on the Outer Ring Road and roads housing major IT and BT companies, where daily traffic volumes remain extremely high. Officials believe that skywalks in these areas will significantly reduce pedestrian delays and improve overall traffic movement.
