Germany student dies in Nelamangala after bike skids; helmet absence proves fatal

27-year-old Tejas Gowda, home on vacation, suffers deadly head injuries after a bike skid near BESCOM office in Nelamangala.

A 27-year-old man pursuing his MS degree in Germany died in a road accident in Nelamangala after his bike skidded and he fell onto a road divider. The victim, identified as C. Tejas Gowda, was a resident of Nelamangala who had returned home a week earlier to attend a friend’s wedding.

The incident took place on Monday near the BESCOM office in Nelamangala Town. According to the police, Tejas lost control of his bike when it skidded on the stretch, causing him to fall and sustain severe head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Despite being treated at a private hospital, he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night after fighting for survival for three days.

A friend claimed that a flex board shaking in the wind had touched the bike, leading to the skid. However, the Nelamangala traffic police clarified that CCTV footage showed the skid happening well before the flex board. The police stated that the fatal injuries were a result of Tejas hitting the divider without helmet protection.

While ruling out the flex board’s direct involvement in the accident, officers have initiated a separate inquiry to check whether permission was taken to erect the board, as several illegal flexes have been causing concern in the area.

Tejas belonged to a family that runs a tours and travels business. His sudden death has sparked anger among locals, who say the unchecked spread of flex boards across Nelamangala has become a growing hazard. Police have registered a case at the Nelamangala Traffic Police Station and further investigation is underway.
