Bengaluru’s governance gets a major shake-up as BBMP makes way for five corporations with constituency-wise ward divisions
A New Era in City Governance
Bengaluru’s civic administration enters a historic transition from tomorrow (September 2, 2025) as the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) comes into effect. The current Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be replaced by five municipal corporations, each with two zones, creating a total of ten administrative divisions.
The move promises decentralisation, quicker decision-making, and region-specific development, though it also means wards from the same Assembly constituency may now fall under different corporations.
