The Karnataka government has officially restructured the civic administration of Greater Bengaluru, forming five municipal corporations with two zones each, and setting up temporary offices for smooth functioning.
In a landmark move to streamline civic administration, the Karnataka government has issued a notification creating five municipal corporations and 10 zones under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). Each corporation will function through two zones, with temporary offices already identified to ensure immediate implementation.

The newly formed civic units are as follows:
1. Bengaluru Central City Corporation
Zone 1: Existing East Zone Office
o Zone 2: Annex-3 of the Central Office
2. Bengaluru East City Corporation
o Zone 1: Existing Mahadevapura Zone Office
o Zone 2: KR Puram Chief Engineer’s Office
3. Bengaluru West City Corporation
o Zone 1: Existing RR Nagar Zone Office
o Zone 2: Chandralayout Zone Office (Palike Soudha)
4. Bengaluru North City Corporation
o Zone 1: Existing Yelahanka Zone Office
o Zone 2: Existing Dasarahalli Zone Office
5. Bengaluru South City Corporation
o Zone 1: Existing South Zone Office
o Zone 2: Existing Bommanahalli Zone Office

The Greater Bengaluru Authority’s central office will operate from Annex-1 and Annex-2 buildings, while the zonal offices will handle localised service delivery.

Officials believe that this restructuring will decentralise governance, improve efficiency, and bring civic services closer to residents across Bengaluru’s rapidly growing urban sprawl.
